The Gambia takes a new turn in propelling the digital transformation
January 15, 2022, Cloud.GM, presented by PointClick Technologies, a managed hosting and cloud services provider with over 15 years in the web and cloud hosting industry, has acquired the assets and customers of N-Web Plus, a website design and hosting management firm based in The Gambia.
The discussion to acquire N-Web Plus initially began in 2019 when its founder, Modou Njie and Malik Khan, the CEO of PointClick, briefly discussed the idea during a trip to Lausanne, Switzerland. At the time, Mr. Njie represented The Gambia at Seedstars’ annual Global Pitch Competition for his MoneyFarm venture.
Both Njie and Khan thought the idea was great for helping local businesses propel their digital transformation through a local marketplace curated with local and global web and cloud service resources. The process took two years to negotiate, and the deal was officially signed in January of 2022.
“Since starting N-Web Plus in 2003, our focus has always been on providing exceptional service to our customers, which is part of the reason behind this acquisition. We believe it will allow us to continue our website design and other IT services while we offload the heavy lifting of hosting and domain services to Cloud.GM,” shared Modou Njie. “Although the N-Web Plus brand and services are not completely going away, we plan to work closely with the PointClick and Cloud.GM Team on several other initiatives in the years to come” to assist with propelling digital transformation in The Gambia,” he continued.
The acquisition of N-Web Plus’ assets and customer base fits into PointClick’s grand plan of helping companies and governments in Africa, beginning with The Gambia, digitize. Cloud.GM is a pillar of Innovate Gambia’s Digitalize Gambia initiative, a project funded by PointClick Technologies. By purchasing N-Web Plus’ assets and customers, Cloud.GM will allow locals to transact in their currency and deal with people that speak their languages, and not just English. The platform will allow customers to purchase, renew or manage their .GM domains along with other TLD such as .com, .net, and .org as well as purchase and manage other services, including shared hosting, virtual or cloud servers, Microsoft 365, Azure, Amazon Web Services, SSL Certificates, and many more services.
“Not only will the acquisition allow existing N-Web Plus customers to better manage their services, but it will also open up new avenues to help them expand on their digital transformation through localized transactions for support services and payments.,” said Malik Khan. “The days of requiring customers in The Gambia to store credit cards on file with web services companies in the US or Europe, or struggle to reach support outside the country are over. Cloud.GM aims to solve these challenges through our local team on the ground, resulting in more payment options and more flexible terms. The platform was built for us by us,” concluded Khan.
